Music is a place for the soul to live. A place to feel our deepest emotions that no one else gets the chance to see. A space to express for the expressionless.
I have always found music as my way to truly feel my emotions as it has always been a difficult thing for me to do. Music is how I have found my own values in life and who I am. I knew I wanted to do something with music for my zine and I pretty quickly had the idea of finding some of my favorite songs. I didn't want to have very similar songs, so I chose to do one's that all held different meanings in my life. As I was listening to my favorite playlist of songs I came across the idea of picking songs that represent different parts of who I am and how the songs I would choose have helped me realize these parts of me. Because of this idea, I decided to do the Willow tree at the end with the different values or things I have experienced in the roots to represent them being my foundation of what made me me. I found it quite difficult to only pick a few songs as I am a music lover but once I narrowed it down I found it even harder to decide how I wanted to represent each song. I tend to be a very literal person so the creativity side of me struggled a little. I soon learned to let go of perfectionism and literalness and just start making whatever came to my mind first when I played each song. Each page is made out of my very first ideas when I started each song and I went with it. If I were to change anything, I would change the way I incorporated the text. I think I could have been more creative with the words and even expressed what I was trying to get across without the use of words in some pages. Overall though, I stayed with my idea from the start and definitely learned different aspects of photoshop and illustrator along the way.
